Former Sea Warrior George Fochive Selected 39th in MLS SuperDraft

HONOLULU,HI (January 22, 2014)—Former Hawai`i Pacific Men's Soccer Player George Fochive was selected with the first pick in the third round of the 2014 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. Fochive was taken by the Portland Timbers as the 39th overall pick.
Fochive was a standout in his two seasons at HPU. Under the tutelage of Head Coach Chris Fisher, Fochive made the All-PacWest Team in both his freshman and sophomore seasons and was named NSCAA Second Team All-West Region in 2011.
Fochive played in 27 games for the Columbia Blue and Kelly Green scoring five goals and five assists as a midlfielder.
"George was a fantastic player for us. He is a driven, talented, passionate player. It is no surprise to me that the Portland Timbers see that in him. We wish him continued success," said Fisher.
Coaches took notice of Fochive after the 2011 season and he transferred to Division I powerhouse University of Connecticut for the final two years of his eligibility. The Huskies made it to the national quarterfinals both years.The Timbers are one of MLS' newest franchises and feature one of the most passionate fan bases averaging nearly 21,000 fans per contest.
